This months devotion by Al Long: False prophets and false teachers have been on my mind a lot lately because of the way the leaders of our country and financial institutions are acting. They are doing what is best for themselves and not what is best for our country. A couple of weeks ago, I gave a message about Balaam and his taking donkey. Balaam appeared to be a prophet for hire. When he blessed people they were blessed and when he cursed them they were cursed. His reputation was known far and wide. King Balak from Moab sent some princes to ask Balaam to come and curse the children of Israel so they could defeat them. Gold told him not to go, so he didn't go. Balak sent greater princes to ask Balaam. Balaam asked God a second time. This time God told Balaam to go and speak only what He tells him. God didn't change his mind, he was giving Balaam what he wanted, for he knew Balaam's heart. When Balaam went, he was faced with an angel three times. He did not see the angel, but his donkey did. The donkey tried to avoid the angel's sword. But each time Balaam beat the donkey. God opened the donkey's mouth and it spoke to Balaam. You can read what it said in Numbers 22:21-23. It's strange that Balaam could not see the angel nor could he see that God did not want him to go. He went because his heart was on his own desires and not the desires of God. I am afraid so many of our leaders today don't even know God, let alone understand His will for their lives and for our nation. We need to pray for our leaders like we have never prayed before. If we do this, maybe we can avoid God's punishment, as talked about in 2 Peter 2:1-7. In these verses you will find that he spared not the angels that sinned, nor the old world, but saved Noah. He also turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorra into ashes. How can we expect God to spare our leaders and our nation? Would you take a moment right now and pray that God would spare our nation. Please put this thought on your prayer list. 2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who secretly shall bring in destructive heresies, and even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
